Beach wheelchairs along the Dutch coast
In collaboration with the coastal municipalities, the Stichting Gehandicaptenvoordeel, a Dutch foundation for disabled and elderly people who are less mobile, has published the brochure Strandrolstoelen aan de Nederlandse kust ('Beach wheelchairs along the Dutch coast') to provide information about beach wheelchairs. The Dutch version of the brochure is available online; an English and a German version are currently in production. The brochure lists two locations in IJmuiden aan Zee and Velsen that offer free beach wheelchairs. Beach wheelchairs are usually made from durable synthetic materials, have large wheels that glide gently over sand and even make it possible to venture into the sea for a bit.
Outstanding Events has one beach wheelchair available. If you have a satnav, input the address Reyndersweg 2, 1951 LA Velsen Noord. Parking is available by Restaurant Sea You, which offers a number of disabled persons’ parking bays. Call +31 (0)251 750 500 to reserve the beach wheelchair in advance and to ensure there is free passage to the beach pavilion.
Strand Paviljoen Zuidpier has two beach wheelchairs available. They are made entirely from synthetic materials, and their soft, broad wheels make them ideal for traversing over sand. They are also seawater-proof, so you can manoeuvre the chair into the sea. To make the beach more accessible for disabled persons and those less able to walk, Paviljoen Zuidpier provides the beach wheelchairs free of charge. They are available throughout the year. Disabled persons’ parking bays are also available nearby.
Strandpaviljoen Zuidpier is situated at IJmuiderstrand 172 and you can contact them at +31 (0)25 551 4222.
